Page 1 of 17 IntroductionSometime around Q2 2011, AMD expanded their Northern Islands GPU lineup with the introduction of the “Turks” video cards. These entry level video cards can have 480 stream processors, 24 texture units, 8 ROPs and come with a 128-bit memory interface. Although these cards are capable of running the latest DirectX 11 games and offer a significant performance leap over integrated graphics options, they are also useful as productivity enhancers, delivering DirectX11, HD3D support, Accelerated Parallel Processing and Eyefinity multi-display capability.
AMD gave free reign to various AIBs to design their Turks-line GPU and the result is a wide range of HD6570 and HD6670s that vary in cooling design and display output configuration. To attract the HTPC market, for example, some manufacturers have created low profile and fanless designs. Some have attached larger dual fan designs to attract the performance gaming segment. ASUS, as one of the world’s largest video card manufacturers, has released 3 versions of the HD 6670, two of which have DDR3 memory while the version that is equipped with a DisplayPort comes with 1GB of GDDR5.
The ASUS HD6670 video card with DisplayPort is factory overclocked to 810MHz. This ASUS HD6670 is equipped with faster memory for superior performance and is equipped with a DisplayPort for 3-monitor Eyefinity support. Cooling is provided by an 80mm dust-proof fan blowing down on an aluminum heatsink. Since the ASUS Radeon HD6670 only has a TDP of 66W, there are no additional 6-pin power connectors needed. Aside from the DisplayPort connector, there is also a DVI-I port and an HDMI port, fully supporting AMD’s HD3D technology.
