If you watched television in the late 80s/early 90s then you are undoubtedly familiar with the exploits of MacGyver, a resourceful and inventive secret agent of sorts that escapes seemingly impossible traps week after week. While everyone was enamored with MacGyver himself, as a young kid I was equally impressed with Victorinox Huntsman Swiss Army knife that he carried in his pocket. This small but versatile tool was just as responsible for getting him out of tight situations as his brilliant scientific mind.

Efficiency of space is a major aspect of designing for portability, especially if it is something that has to fit inside tight spaces and small areas. The idea of having a single unit that acts as a hub for multiple items is an idea that can also be extended to apply towards designing an item meant to sit on top of a desk, in particular, as a hard drive dock in place of having to deal with multiple cables and individual power connectors. Legacy devices are being phased out of modern motherboards so access to IDE drives, for example, will soon only be limited to external devices.

The Icy Dock MB881U3-1SA EZ-Dock is a versatile HDD adapter that can fit any 2.5” or 3.5” IDE and SATA drives. The Icy Dock MB881U3-1SA HDD docking station has a simple open air design that takes up very little space on the desktop. Using an HDD on the Icy Dock MB881U3-1SA is as simple as attaching the drive to the corresponding connector and requires no tools to install. Using a USB 3.0 connector, the Icy Dock MB881U3-1SA EZ-Dock offers high speed connectivity with bandwidth up to 5Gbps and is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 on any MAC or PC system.
