As a father, I have now succumb to the act of recording my daughter. I had purchased a new camera for my wife before CES for this exact reason. Unfortunately, I didn't have the money to drop on a fancy DSLR camera that could take immaculate photos. Instead, I had to buy a point and shoot. The camera I purchased was a Canon PowerShot, so the pictures look pretty good. However, point and shoots can only do so much. Usually, a little software help is needed to finalize a good photo.
There are tons of photo editing programs out in the market. One of the go to products has always been Photoshop for professionals. The problem with that type of software is that it is way to extensive for the novice. It's also way too expensive for any normal user. A full version copy will run you around $700. There is software specific to novices. However, these might be lacking in one area or another, or only offer the bare minimum.
Cyberlink PhotoDirector 3 combines professional tools and ease of use for both novice and advanced users. PhotoDirector 3 is a big update from Cyberlink's previous PhotoDirector 2011. The first round of updates is to its importing and management abilities. Cyberlink has added 16-Bit color support, editing abilities to IPTC metadata, and a fully customizable toolbar. The next round of updates was to the manual adjustments to photos. There is now more control with lighting, color, HSL, white balance, sharpness, noise reduction, and lens distortions. One big addition is the perfect portrait and precise editing ability. There are tools like skin smoother, wrinkle remover, tooth brush, and eye blinger that can make dull pictures look professionally done. There are also extract and compose tools for easy object removal and addition.
