Introduction

It's that time of the year again, so you better make sure you cross your T’s and dot your I’s or you just may get audited by the IRS. For many of us, tax time can be a profitable time, the refund you may receive can stimulate your pocket enough to spend a little for something you may have been holding off on for a while. Some may use theirs to purchase a new car or even a new wide screen HDTV, but many of us may want to upgrade our home computers. There are quite a few new processors and other components to choose from, but some may still be out of budget which will keep us in the mainstream market. AMD has a solution that will not only allow us to stay in our budget but allow the opportunity to just upgrade a processor and still receive the benefits of the latest CPU technologies.

AMD has launched the second round of their Phenom II processors, they will be both quad and tri cores. They are the Phenom II 810 X4 and 720 BE X3, which are both AM3 processors. As part of the new series, AMD is also offering other X3 and X4 Phenom II’s, but we will be focusing on the two mentioned. Unlike some of their past processors, the new AM3 series is reverse compatible with AM2+ chipsets and motherboards. The Phenom II AM3 processors will give you the versatility of either upgrading just a processor and staying with most of the components you already have or, if you choose to take full advantage of all the newest technologies, you can upgrade your entire system and move forward to DDR3 Ram.

With the new Phenom II processors you will also have the option of using some new enhancement software developed by AMD; they include AMD Fusion, which is game enhancing software that shuts system processes down temporarily to increase performance, AMD Overdrive, which is an overclocking utility that even a novice can use to increase performance of your processor and AMD Fusion Media Center, which is in beta at this time, but this software can be used to chronicle and edit all your video and photos.
