Cooler Master Storm Spawn Gaming Mouse Review

Humans are strange creatures. Somehow, as a species, we have an innate need for control. It makes absolutely no difference if it is logical in any way, we still have the need. In Levitt and Dubner’s studies of risk of vs. fear of death (included in “Freakonomics”, which if you haven’t read, you probably should), they discuss the fact that “risks in your control are much less an outrage than risks out of your control”. Pretty simple, right? However, the study points out that far more people are afraid of flying than of driving, even though the death risk in driving is far higher, or that people fear Mad Cow disease far more than food-borne pathogens from their own kitchen, regardless that the risk from their own kitchen is far greater. Why? Well, because we control our cars and kitchens and have a sense of security from this control.

Just how important is the most basic and simplistic of controls? Is something as simple as the mouse you use likely to make a difference in your life? If you have ever tried to use a PC with a faulty mouse (or other input device), you know exactly how important it is. Few things are as infuriating as a mouse that drifts, jerks or simply won’t put the cursor where you want it to go. The obvious solution is a mouse with a high DPI for precision, with a higher polling rate for fluid movement….and it would be nice if it could record macros for multiple keystrokes with just the click of a button. Something like the new Cooler Master Storm Spawn Gaming Mouse.

The Cooler Master Storm Spawn Gaming Mouse impresses at first glance with a dark crimson and black finish. The Storm Spawn is hardly just a pretty face, however, boasting 3500 DPI adjustable on the fly with anti-drift sensing, polling rates up to 1000Hz, macro recording ability and 32kb of memory onboard to save those macros to the Storm Spawn itself. Saving macros to the hardware allows the Storm Spawn to be plugged into any computer with the Storm’s software suite and have the macros work immediately. No need to re-input. The Storm Spawn is also built to be comfortable in the hand with a sculpted ergonomic design featuring textured black rubber grips. To stand up to some hard gaming, the Storm Spawn features Omron micro switches on all buttons, guaranteed for a minimum 5 million clicks. The Teflon feet on the Storm Spawn allow it to glide smoothly across most surfaces.
