CM Storm QuickFire Pro (Cherry MX Brown) Gaming Keyboard Review

Article Index

I've had the DVD of Mass Effect 3 sitting on my desk for several weeks now and have yet to install it. All the positive and negative hype surrounding the game aside, I just don't feel like playing another supposed PC game where the controls are geared and simplified for gamepad usage. After hearing my friend describe his Mass Effect 3 gaming experience as "press spacebar times N", I really didn't feel like taking time for the game anymore. There is something about playing with a keyboard and mouse that makes the gaming experience much more immersive to me. The controls are often much more precise as well and it is disheartening to see some PC game developers completely forget that a lot of players still use their keyboards to play.

CM Storm QuickFire Rapid Gaming Keyboard

All is not completely lost thankfully, as there are still plenty of PC games that are very much enjoyable when played on the PC and not a result of lowest-common denominator marketing strategy. Games like Battlefield 3, Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2 have a huge fanbase, forever dedicated to the keyboard-mouse gaming experience. I consider myself a loyal PC gamer and you'd have to pry my keyboard from my cold dead hands before I trade it for a game pad. I am also peculiar about what keyboard or mouse I use and want controls that give me the flexibility of a gaming input device and a day-to-day work keyboard. This is also why I am partial to Cherry MX brown switch keyboards for it provides a good balance between the two functions. Just my luck as Cooler Master is further expanding their mechanical keyboard line with the new Quick Fire Pro keyboard equipped with Cherry MX brown switches.

The CM Storm Quick Fire Pro is a full-sized keyboard designed for gamers. The CM Storm Quick Fire Pro keyboard with Cherry MX brown switches are available for the North American market, providing a light and tactile feel without the "click" noises of a Cherry MX blue switch found in the CM Storm Quick Fire Rapid. Designed with enthusiasts in mind, the CM Storm Quick Fire Pro has a partially LED backlit left-hand side gaming cluster and arrow keys. Similar to the CM Storm Quick Fire Rapid, the braided and gold-plated USB connectors are detachable for portability and can be managed through the cable routing channels underneath. The CM Storm Quick Fire Pro has an MSRP of $99 and carries a two-year warranty.
