I've always been hesitant of going full wireless with all of my computers. While wireless was always good for general browsing and streaming, I found while gaming, I would have lag issues and periodic signal drops. This was mainly due to all of the wireless signals clogging up the 2.4GHz band. People don't realize that it isn't just computers using the 2.4GHz range. I have a baby monitor that uses the same frequency and will cause signal interference. There are also microwaves, cordless phones, and some Bluetooth devices that will also use the 2.4GHz range. Have you ever been in an intense online game and someone goes to heat up something in the microwave and you lag out? I've had that happen to me.

It wasn't until the end of 2009 that we saw the introduction of the 802.11n standard. Originally, the N version still used the 2.4GHz spectrum, however, there was the introduction of the 5GHz band and 40MHz channel width to consumers. The 5GHz band is much less congested and offers higher capacity. The 40MHz channel width allows double the bandwidth (per channel) over the standard 20MHz channel.
