Introduction

Remember when putting together a home theater required setting up a dozen components, and as many wires and cables as can be found on the space shuttle? When you spent long hours making sense of a pile of manuals and several remote controls? Gone are those days, that muss and that fuss. Behold the emergence of the Home Theater Personal Computer (HTPC). Enthusiasts and amateurs alike are now building systems with equipment that allows them to play the latest media, with high definition sound and video.

The Antec Veris Multimedia Station Premier serves the needs of the most passionate HTPC builder, but also is equally compatible with users operating packaged PC systems, like those from Dell or Gateway. The Veris Multimedia Station features a receiver unit with a stylish LCD display and convenient front panel controls. It mounts into two adjoining 5.25” drive bays, and is easy to install. The Media Station’s infrared remote control allows the ability to play and manipulate video and audio and adjust settings using the Thumb Pad Mouse controller. The Antec Multimedia Station Premier includes IMEDIAN software, which has internal codecs allowing playback of most media formats. This includes full 1080p HD support. We decided to install the Multimedia Station Permier in a packaged Dell system and run it through its paces, proving that even an amateur can turn his machine into a home theater system.
