Performance
The Kingston HyperX Red Limited Edition DDR3-1600 2x4GB Memory Kit Review performed very well and was stable, even when overclocked to 1886MHz with 9-10-9-27 timings at 1.65V
Reviewer's Opinion
Compared to other memory kits, Kingston memory modules are often more functional than they are flashy. Even the high end Kingston HyperX heatsinks are only large by design for exquisite performance tuning speeds, compared to competitor's heatsinks which, more often than not, are aggressively designed (think guns and tall pointy teeth-like fins) even though it is unnecessary. For this restraint, I applaud Kingston. The simpler, straightforward design does not look out of place in most systems and the low profile heat spreaders assure optimal aftermarket heatsink clearance compatibility.
Despite being a limited edition run, the Kingston HyperX Red LE memory kits are priced exactly the same as the HyperX Blu kits, which is great news, since HyperX Blu memory kits are one of the most affordable and common entry-level performance modules available. The Kingston HyperX Red limited edition modules are also XMP ready for convenient, overclocked performance over the reference JEDEC specifications.
In terms of performance, the Kingston HyperX Red Limited Edition 1600MHz 2x4GB memory kit could further be performance tuned to 1886MHz with 1.65V stock voltage with 9-10-9-27 2T timings. This presents a significant performance bump, compared to the stock 1600MHz CL9 XMP settings and the tighter CL7 timings at 1333MHz, lowering memory latency by 3 points and increasing cache bandwidth by 12 points in SiSandra 2012.
Overall, the Kingston HyperX Red Limited Edition 1600MHz 2x4GB DDR3 is a well-rounded memory kit that offers a wide range of system compatibility and priced extremely well in a competitive market. There are no heatsink clearance issues to be considered and with a lifetime warranty out of the box, the Kingston HyperX Red Limited Edition memory kit provides total peace of mind.
