Introduction

Control is a finicky mistress, many of us take it for granted and yet others mistake the limited grasp we actually have over things as the best we can do. Even when we build with the best hardware that can rip through the most complex programs, we can only ever do this after instructions from the user. When it comes down to it our computers have evolved many times over while our input devices have stayed fairly static.

Our keyboards have seen many different iterations over the years but on a device with over 100 keys being the norm the addition of a few more isn't often news. Our mice on the other hand have taken a much slower progression through their evolution. Going optical instead of using an old track ball that collected dust was a quality of life improvement and the addition of a scroll wheel was ushered in as common sense with a back button or even forward button becoming common as well. I look at my mouse as half of my possible means of controlling my system and I think it's time it started to pull it's respective weight.

The Cooler Master Storm Inferno takes a stab at redefining what we should expect from our mouse. The Storm Inferno includes not only 11 buttons, but with the Storm Tactics key, it multiples the possible input options by working as a function key. With a 4000 DPI laser that can be adjusted on both the X and Y axis, a comfortable grip for long term use and the option to change every button on the mouse, it doesn't take long after using it to realize how much control we've sacrificed using that 3 button mouse.
