Page 1 of 6 IntroductionIt's hard to believe that the USB interface has been around for almost fifteen years. For any technology standard, it seems like a millennium by comparison. Yet after all this time, it's not only still around and still a really great concept, it actually continues to grow in leaps and bounds. It seems like no matter what you buy these days, it has a USB interface for something. Your cell phone, music player, GPS, portable drives....I have to check, but I'm pretty sure my dishwasher has one as well.
What has really kept USB as a preferred interface is its simplicity, combined with incredible versatility. Not only is it capable of carrying information, it is also capable of powering many of the devices it is sharing the information with, delivering a full 5v through the cable. However, that 5v is delivered with only 100mA of current, which is not enough to power many devices without the use of a powered hub. However, adding a hub adds clutter, greatly reducing the simplicity that makes USB attractive in the first place. You just want to plug in a wire and have it work, right? Well, what if your hub was inside the case powering up your external ports? Also, what if the hub gave you a couple of ports inside the case to plug in rarely moved items?
The NZXT USB Expansion Module is more than a simple powered USB hub. The NZXT USB Expansion module is also less than your typical powered USB hub. NZXT has taken a very simple idea and moved the powered hub inside the case. No outer hub, no AC plug. The NZXT USB Expansion Module offers you the incredible convenience of up to six full powered USB right on your case, as well as two powered ports internally.
