Page 1 of 9 IntroductionAnyone remember what they were doing in 2004? Here is a year in review. Yasir Arafat, president of the Palestinian National Authority, died. The summer Olympics took place in Athens and introduced us to the phenom Michael Phelps. He took 8 medals, 6 gold and 2 bronze. Carly Patterson became the second American to win the all around gold medal in female gymnastics. The deadliest tsunami in history hit the Indian ocean and killed over 225,000 people across Asia and the outer islands. George dubbya somehow got re-elected.
A shinning pinnacle in the MMO world also came out in 2004. City of Heroes was highly anticipated and a complete change of pace from the current games on the market. This new MMO introduced the masses to the world of super heroes. For the first time, we were able to build our own comic hero from the ground up. Not only that, but the character customization options were so extensive, City of Heroes won much praise for that alone. I was one of the privileged people involved in the beta program before the game was released. It was a stark change from WoW and Star Wars Galaxies that dominated the genre at the time.
On August 16, 2010, NCSoft released their latest expansion pack to City of Heroes. This expansion was aptly labeled City of Heroes: Going Rogue. No, Sarah Palin wasn't involved in its making. Going Rogue was designed to refresh the City of Heroes game, as well as give it a makeover. New characters can now start as a Praetorian, which gives access to a completely new map, as well as a new line of missions that let you choose between good and evil outcomes. There are 4 new super archetypes to choose from; Demon Summoner, Dual Pistols, Kinetic Melee and Electricity control. Most importantly, there is the new ability to toggle the graphics into ultra mode, giving the game a completely new look and visual depth.
