Page 1 of 6 IntroductionEver heard the term "Toasted Skin Syndrome"? The official medical term for this condition is Erythema ab igne. This is where prolonged exposure to infrared radiation causes reddened blotchy skin. Originally, it was only seen with things like hot water bottles and heating pads, or people that worked around heat sources. However, this has changed with laptops. Now it can be seen with prolonged exposure to laptop use. In 2007, a widely popular case made media attention with a 12 year old boy that had inflamed thighs due to prolonged laptop use. He would game for hours a day with the laptop directly on his lap, and this lasted for months. Needless to say, a barrier between your lap and a laptop is essential.
During CES, Cooler Master had a very nice suite setup with all kinds of goodies that they are releasing this year when it comes to notebook peripherals. Video can be seen here. Some of their more popular products are the notebook coolers. One of the last ones that I was able to review was the NotePal U3. That had excellent performance and a very cool and innovative design where you were able to manually move 3 fans around the base of the cooler. That specific cooler allowed for fan position customizability if you had an abnormal notebook size, or vent position on the bottom of the notebook. Overall, it was one of my favorite notebook coolers that I have been using even to this day.
Cooler Master is ready to release their newest line of NotePal coolers, starting with the NotePal Infinite Evo Duo Silent Fan Notebook Cooler. The Infinite Evo adds a bit of style and high performance and an excellent price. The design uses a unique U-shape airflow method that intakes with two 80mm fans. Fans can be controlled by a speed control wheel on the side by the USB power connection. The top of the Evo is made of a high quality aluminum pad that has a sand-spray finish. It is USB powered and includes a 3 port USB 2.0/1.1 hub. There is also an ergonomic design angle for optimal viewing and typing. There is support for 12" to 17" laptops.
