Conclusion

Price Point

Price: $44.99

Class: Mainstream

The NZXT Cryo S fits into the mainstream class nicely at $45 and even has features more prominent on higher end coolers, like variable speed fans and integrated USB hub.

Performance

The performance of the NZXT Cryo S was decent, but the fan speeds really didn't make much difference between higher and lower settings. There was a good improvement overall from taking the temperatures of the laptop on the desk and then on the Cryo S, with slight differences when comparing the various fan speeds. The USB hub was recognized quickly and functioned flawlessly allowing for extra devices to be utilized. The use of the AC adapter or the USB power plug gave options for the user so that when on the go they could use one of their USB ports to power the Cryo, but when at a desk they could plug the Cryo into an electrical outlet so as to not have to use one of their valuable USB ports.

Reviewer's Opinion

The overall construction of the NZXT Cryo S is top notch and the quality of the components and materials used was excellent. The USB hub was recognized immediately by Vista and functioned flawlessly. The functionality of the AC or USB power supplies was a nice touch, making versatility paramount with this cooler. The variable speed fans functioned as they should and were exceptionally quiet. The position that the laptop is held in for typing and viewing makes for a comfortable experience, especially during extended use.

  • Rugged construction
  • Quiet performance
