When someone tells you to “check out that convertible”, what comes to your mind? Maybe a 1956 Thunderbird or some other vehicle of your choice. It probably isn’t a crib that springs to mind, or a sofa for that matter. But the fact is, there are more varieties of each of these than there are automobiles. Somewhere along the line, “convertible” became synonymous with the vehicle variety, much like “Kleenex” became more than a brand name and many refer to any cola as a “Coke”. But the term “convertible” refers to anything that can be converted from one thing to another or from one purpose to another. There are many types of convertible items in this world that are not vehicles. Take Transformers, for example. They are definitely convertibles even when they turn into a hard top.
The convertible concept is brilliant and is a huge part of everyday life in many parts of the world. Through most of Europe and Asia, living spaces are generally significantly smaller than what the average North American is accustomed to. Making better use of space is not a trivial point and, given the cost of living everywhere, having items that can grow and upgrade with your life situation is a boon. Look at computer technology, the ability to make a major upgrade from something like an older Athlon dual core to a new Thuban six core for simply the price of the chip allows for major changes without the need to make a major investment all at once.
The Noctua NH-C14 may be the most versatile “convertible” CPU cooling solution around today. The Noctua NH-C14 has the ability to go from ultra-low profile and silent to a dual 140mm fan enthusiast cooler with just a couple of clips. Standing at only 105mm tall with a bottom mounted fan, the NH-C14 can fit into almost any case. Despite its small height, the NH-C14 still has six copper heatpipes running through a 140mm square aluminum fin array, making the absolute most of a small space. The included Low and Ultra-Low Noise Adapters throttle back the fan (or fans) to near dead silence while still maintaining excellent cooling. Should the need arise, the second fan can be added for maximum cooling potential of even highly overclocked systems. As your needs change and grow, so does the NH-C14. The NH-C14 comes complete with two of Noctua’s acclaimed NF-P14 140mm fans. Each NF-P14 is capable of a whopping 110CFM of air movement at an incredibly quiet 19.6dBA.
