Whenever I see a big cat act, all I can do is sit there trying to will the cat to snap its jaws shut at the appropriate time. You know…guy doing a split over an open tiger’s mouth…perfect timing. It sounds kind of cruel and off kilter, but the entire thing seems so unreal, that it just seems like a cartoon, anyway, and nobody ever gets hurt in cartoons, ever. You can shoot Daffy Duck straight in the face with a shotgun, and worst case scenario is that he has to turn his bill back around to the front of his head. Don’t even get me started on the steamroller effect.
However, accidents do happen in real life. Just ask Siegfried and Roy, whose long career ended with just such an act of a tiger that decided it was a good time to close its mouth. Even Penn & Teller pondered at length about who would be responsible for death during a magic trick. Thankfully, there is no reported accident involving them, though I have heard several people say that Penn Jillette does make them want to kill someone, or themselves, after prolonged exposure. I happen to like the guy. What is it with these Vegas duos? Too long staring at the flashing lights?
