NZXT Havik 140 CPU Cooler Review

Bo Diddley has been called many, many things. The incredibly apt album title “Bo Diddley Is a Gunslinger” comes to mind, while the Jesus and Mary Chain recorded the simply titled “Bo Diddley Is Jesus”. Most refer to him as a pioneer, the inventor of the “Bo Diddley Beat”, that probably did as much as (if not more than) Chuck Berry’s guitar stylings to shape rock and roll in the late 1950s and 1960s. You may think you don’t know Bo, but odds are good that you do. If someone points it out, you will likely say “that’s the Bo Diddly Beat???????” having heard it in a few thousand songs by other artists. Regardless of what type of music you listen to, someone has covered his song “Who Do You Love?” into that format….blues, country, heavy metal, noise pop, psychedelic, elevator music, 8-bit Nintendo emulations…Do a quick search on Youtube, it's pretty amazing. Bo Jackson may not know hockey (despite Wayne Gretzky's insinuation), but Bo Diddley sure knows a catchy beat.

The thing that was really remarkable about the Bo Diddley Beat was the way it was diversified across so many forms of music. It was blues at its roots and the Beatles latched onto it immediately in their early works. The Rolling Stones took it a step further, giving it more of an edge and making it their signature. Psychedelic bands slowed it down and let it be a rock solid backing. It adapted freely to country songs, and even easy-listening. The beat was more than a one trick pony (though Paul Simon did not use it on his album of that name), and was able to branch out further without diluting the quality of the product. Bo Diddley may have actually set the bar for high quality manufacturing of pieces of a similar vein, but different uses.

NZXT, a well respected and innovative case manufacturer, has made quality impacts in other areas and their release of the Havik 140 CPU Cooler follows suit. The NZXT Havik 140 is an innovative component and, with its unique styling and solid build, fits the NZXT tradition to a tee. The Havik 140 is a large 166mm tall tower cooler, sporting dual 140mm fans, decked out in NZXT’s signature black and white color scheme. With a 1200rpm rotation speed, the 140mm fans are capable of a whopping 90.3cfm while remaining a whisper quiet 25dBA, and are set in a push pull configuration on the cooling tower. Six 6mm heat pipes are laid out in a row across the aluminum fins, allowing for maximum airflow across them for optimal heat dissipation. The heat pipes of the Havik 140 run through a nickel plated copper base with a polished contact plate, and up through patented low resistance aluminum fins. For ease of installation, the Havik 140 uses unique rubber fan clips that also serve to dampen vibration and any possible associated noise. The easy to install, high pressure mounting kit is compatible with Intel LGA1366/1156/1155/775 and AMD AM2/2+/3/3+.
