Rumours of the CPU air cooler’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. Self-contained liquid cooling kits have merely entered the spotlight and taken focus away from the use of large tower-style air coolers. Liquid coolers are typically much pricier but provide better component clearance around the CPU area. Tower-style heatsinks on the other hand are often affordable but have limited RAM height clearance. Both are designed to primarily do the same thing but their approach to heat dissipation is divergent and never the twain shall meet.

Regardless of which is more popular at the moment, they are both necessary and will likely stay around for a while. There will always be users who will opt for either one, no matter what the trend is. With so many options to choose from, many users look toward products from manufacturers they consider reliable and have experience with developing various CPU cooling-related technologies. Despite being more well-known for their cases, Silverstone has had plenty of experience with system cooling with their numerous award-winning fan designs and with their Nitrogon and Heligon series heatsinks for high-end and specialized systems. They are also, thankfully, now expanding to deliver value-oriented products with their new Argon series of coolers.

Silverstone AR01 AR02

 

The Silverstone Argon series AR01 and AR02 coolers are designed to deliver excellent cooling performance for budget conscious system builders. Both AR01 and AR02 heatsinks use Heat-pipe Direct Contact technology for efficient thermal conductivity and have a slimmer 50mm width, which is intended to provide maximum RAM height clearance, even with a 25mm fan installed. The Argon AR01 stands 159mm tall and supports 120mm fans while the Argon AR02 is shorter at 134mm with 92mm fan support. The Argon series coolers share the same mounting kit design, compatible with AMD FM1, FM2, AM2, AM2+, AM3, and AM3+ sockets as well as Intel sockets 775, 1150, 1156, 1155, 1366, and 2011.
