Back in January of 2011, HiTech Legion reviewed the Second Generation Intel Core i5 and Core i7 SandyBridge Processors, as well as multiple P67 Chipset motherboards. We found that both the processor and chipset had interesting architectural changes which boosted performance to new levels. Then it happened, Intel announced that there were some minor problems with the P67 chipset and it was taken off the market until Revision B3 of the chipset was introduced. This was a minor pitfall for those in the DIY category, but for those on the OEM side, it may have become a fiasco. It took Guts to admit to a problem and then rectify it in a short amount of time, to which we give Intel a thumbs up.
This past May, Intel launched its second chipset built for the Second Generation Core processors, which is the Z68 Chipset. The Z68 chipset had even newer innovations, including Rapid Storage Technology, Lucid Vitru, as well as the finely tuned Quick Sync technology. With this launch, questions arose, one of them being; “why did Intel even launch the P67 Chipset? They should have just gone with the Z68”.
HiTech Legion invited both Dan Snyder and Aaron Lau from Intel to a live phone interview, which was recorded. The questions were asked and both Dan and Aaron answered. In this interview, you will find out the thoughts behind the Z68 chipset, why it was not introduced first, and how all the technologies work together to offer the consumer a performance system at an affordable price.
