San Francisco to Stop Purchasing Apple Products

***It may seem like a small margin, but if other municipalities and the politicos push an environmentally green agenda it could have an impact

"Apple’s Cupertino headquarters may just be a few miles away from San Francisco, but the city won’t be spending any more cash on its products.

According to the Wall Street Journal, city agencies in San Francisco will no longer be able to purchase Apple products after the company asked the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) — the group that sets environmental standards for electronics — to remove all 39 of its products from the agency’s green registry.

The standards set forth by EPEAT require products to be easily disassembled by consumers — so that they can remove toxic components such as batteries – in order to be considered green. Apple’s newest products can’t be easily taken apart, and thus can no longer be considered green under the standards...."

The important thing to keep in mind with this is San Fran won't be the only one who can no longer purchase Apple products due to this move. How about they just make user replaceable batteries instead.

If Apple did make user replaceable batteries then some would not be able to go to the Apple iStore to have the iScrews removed.

I dont understand the need for a specialized iScrew used for apple products, or why they make things especially difficult for consumers to be able to take apart a product they have purchased. I remember watching a video about one of their new laptop (apple equivalent of whatever they are called) and they apparently SOLDERED THE RAM to the motherboard making it impossible to remove and if you want a memory upgrade youd have to buy a new product.

I suspect that was the Macbook Air and doesn't really surprise me. I have to say I had to work on a family members Macbook Pro recently and I have to say they have improved significantly as far as servicing them. I was able to pull the entire bottom panel off of us with 6 screws and there were only 2 different sizes...

Because Apple has always had the need to control everything.

Apple has always been about the user experience (within the rules set by Apple)

Here is a link to an infographic that shows the lifecycle and "true" cost of an iPhone. Interesting but I still take anything that throws stats around with many, many grains of salt (there are lies, damn lies and statistics)

Definitely have to take statistics with a grain of salt. But if these are all true wow.

Pretty sure we may have guessed Apple would spin an iTune in short fashion like this update new clip:
Apple returns to environmental ratings list

"NEW YORK (AP) — Apple Inc. said Friday that it is putting its products back on an environmental ratings registry, saying it made a mistake in removing them from the list.

The Cupertino, Calif., company said all of its eligible products are back on the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool registry, and says it looks forward to working with EPEAT, the nonprofit organization that runs the registry.

Apple told EPEAT that it was withdrawing its products from the list on June 29, and said it did not plan to submit its products for ratings in the future.

The list is considered an industry standard and it helps customers buy electronics that are environmentally friendly. Some municipalities also use it to guide their decisions in buying electronics.

In a letter posted on Apple's website, Bob Mansfield, its senior vice president of hardware engineering, said the company "heard from many loyal Apple customers who were disappointed" the company had removed its products from the system.

"I recognize that this was a mistake," he wrote.

After Apple's previous announcement, the city of San Francisco said it would stop buying Apple computers.

Shares of Apple rose $7.66, or 1.3 percent, to $606.56 in afternoon trading."

***Note Apple never been a 'mistake' in part to make sure that the Apple Store was always an 'alternative'.
