Trends That Seriously Need to Be Stopped

Big, unnecessary heat sinks on RAM would be a good starting point.....
Intel i5 3570K @ 4.6GHz | ASUS Z77 Sabertooth | 8GB ADATA XPG Xtreme 2133 | ASUS GTX 680 TOP | OCZ Vector 256GB | 2 x 750GB Caviar Black | NZXT Phantom 630 | Phanteks TC14PE | be quiet! DPP10 1000W

True that, here's the size difference between my new and old RAM:

And I don't really think the HSs are that much needed, just couldn't find better kit without for the same price.

I completely agree, I used tall memory once when DDR3 just came out, never again. I'm just glad the Mushkin memory I had that had thicker heatsinks never caught on, was quite annoyed when I changed boards and moved my memory over just to notice that I couldn't fit all dimms.

Yep that is one big reason why I chose the G.Skill Ares series.

I reviewed the black version of these, and my thoughts on these heatsinks are clearly expressed at the 2:00 mark.

Yeah, you and I had this discussion....I am either going to G. Skill Sniper or Mushkin Blackline 2133 if Patriot doesn't come out with a performance low profile kit really soon.
