AMD Athlon X3 455 processor busted???

A computer cannot run without it. Even machines need a brain. Processor questions are answered here.

Hello Guys,

Just got in the office...First of all, thanks for all the advice.

I decided not to tweak any settings in my BIOS. I would just probably look for Hyper 212 EVO as cooler and see how it goes from there. This is relatively new to me so I'm afraid to touch anything in the BIOS even if i want to. Looks like there's no way i can have the 4th core work properly

heya kamote_kid solid choice with the CM EVO cooler over stock.
Be assured that if you want to tweak those 3 cores properly, you can get all the solid support that you will need right here.

well, actually i have no plans of OC'ing my system..i just want to improve my cooling system and as long as it's stable (hopefully it stays the same), i'm good with it. as per Cella, looks like 58-60C (max) can still be lowered to probably 50-55C @ full load using that cooler that he recommended however, hope system won't become unstable.

i ran prime95 for more than 4 hours...no errors and warnings but i'm concern about my voltage...i got alarms from PC PROBE II that my voltages became abnormal for a specific amount of time during the test. this isn't normal right?

If you run the processor stock that and a memory change is all that is needed. SEt the memory divider to the proper speeds to match your ram.
This is done after loading defaults again.

If you are going to try and performance tune your system then you will have to go into advanced options and shut off your c states (C1E). Shut off cool and quiet.

Under AI tweaker disable Spread Spectrum and PCI Spectrum (if that board has the PCI option).

Performance tuning a system is an art an it requires a lot of patience, no two processors are alike. In 10 mhz increments raise your multiplier intil your system becomes unstable at stock settings. Then when the system becomes unstable tweak voltages slowly in increments. Set your HT to I think 1800 on that board. NB voltage 1.3. (Only if Perfromance tuning,)

Nice can of worms to open. How about we get through the simple voltage setting first, and maybe get a cooler on there that doesn't have the chip hitting 58 degrees?

"In 10 mhz increments raise your multiplier"? Ok....so how many X equals a MHz on a locked chip? Should he try 26.5X first (raising it ten)?

"NB Voltage 1.3"? ::coughbaranskicough:: Ouch. Not sure an Athlon/880V combo is really going to need that kind of overvolt.

Ok wise guy, sorry, HT reference clock.
NB voltage should be raised when ocing (by the way we call it performance tuning here) that processor. Per the AMD OC Guru'- who works at AMD or did at least.

With the 212 EVO, I doubt that CPU would ever even get as hot as 50 degrees.

PC Probe II warns me about voltages all of the time. It has told me randomly that my CPU has 0.0 volts going to it.

Probe II is pretty flakey on AMD systems.

the problem is i can find any available stocks for that cooler
how low can it get as far as temp is concern?

yup i kept receiving that alarm everytime i run prime95 so i got freaked out of the voltage abnormalities

-regarding the last post of backdraft..i have no idea how to do that  :D i'm new to OC'ing a system (well, the first time in case

Your best bet is to set the voltage manually to 1.35V

Once you set the AI overclocker to manual you should be able to adjust voltages. it is on the same page down below

Thanks Admin ;)

"Your best bet is to set the voltage manually to 1.35V" - is this under AI tweaker, hw configuration (under advanced) or in the Power Tab? I'm seeing on ai tweaker, there's one that says CPU offset voltage while in the Power Tab, i have Vcore then when i chose the option, it gave me "Ignored and the value itself 1.46+V" sorry i'm just afraid to do it because i might damage my mobo and cpu

"Once you set the AI overclocker to manual you should be able to adjust voltages. it is on the same page down below" - in the event i can do that, changing the Vcore from 1.46 to 1.35 as advised, do i have to change anything in the +3.3v, +5.5va nd +12v? thanks!

-is there someone out there who has the same BIOS page as mine? Asus M5A88V-evo. Thanks admin!

"it is on the same page down below" can't see the link admin

You only need to adjust the Vcore to 1.35v

Voltage settings should be on the same page as AI Tweaker not on this page.

That is a fairly old board. We did nit review it. You will need to take pictures of your bios put them on a thumb drive take them to work upload a few and let us look at them.
